A total of 32 suspected commercial sex workers were arrested on Monday, July 1st 2019 around 9:00pm at East Legon, of which 15 have been identified as Nigerians.
Prostitution is illegal in Ghana but that has not stopped people from engaging in it. The act has been overlooked by the authorities for a while, but it seems the law is finally taking its course and bringing them to book.
The Ayawaso West Municipal Authorities, in collaboration with the East Legon police arrested these sex workers last night at East Legon and its environs.
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ayawaso West Municipal, Mrs Sandra Owusu Ahenkra advised Ghanaians to be wary of foreigners who are engaged in illegal business in the country, especially those who accommodate them in their homes. Speaking the Akan language, she urged all Ghanaians to investigate these foreigners in order to make sure, that they have all the legal requirements to stay in the country and not be fooled by their wealth.
A young man who was also identified as a pimp to these ladies was arrested alongside.
Mrs Sandra Owusu also mentioned, that this exercise is going to continue still all the foreigners involved in prostitution, armed robbery and other crimes have been arrested and deported
The Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, Samuel Basintale Amadu also stated that they are going to conduct further investigations and also present the case to the authorities in order to find a solution to it.
