Nigerian artist Burna Boy and the beautiful Soh Madjozi of Sound Africa won Best International Art and Best New International Art ( by popular votes) respectively and mama Africa is so proud of them.
Burna Boy was nominated alongside AKA (South Africa), Aya Nakamura (France), Dave (UK), Dosseh (France), Giggs (UK) and fellow Nigerian Mr. Eazi.
In the end Burna Boy emerged the winner. Even though he wasn’t present to accept the award, his mother and manager accepted it on his behalf. This is what his mother said in the acceptance speech ’’ thank you BET, thank you Africa. That is the constituency for which we got noticed in the first place’’. She wasn’t quiet done after saying her thanks. She further stated ‘’ the message from Burna I believe would be that every Black person should please remember that you were Africans before you became anything else’’
Soh Madjozis’name on the other hand will go down in history as the first ever female artist to win a BET award. She accepted the award from Terrence J in her signature colourful style. She said in her emotion filled acceptance speech that her story is a testament that you can be from any village or any forgotten part of the world and still be a super star. She had a word of advice especially for girl from Limpopo where she comes from. ‘’ you don’t have to change who you are and you can still be big’’
Congratulations to these two, wishing them all the best in their musical career.
